“Wow! Wow! Wow! That’s a Genet latrine!” is not a phrase I’d ever uttered before, until on a walk this weekend. Fabrizio stopped to admire the view of the gorge, and I spotted this beautiful pile of poo in a crack in the rocks!
This is the calling sign of the Northern Small-Spotted Genet. These small carnivores were introduced to the Iberian peninsula approximately 1,500 years ago. They have a varied diet and defecate in latrines at the edge of their territories.

Im looking for any Mastodon instance related to #tracking, in the old fashioned sense of the word, on the ground, in the real world, following the doings of our mysterious neighbors who we mostly get to know through the tracks and signs they leave.

The small female black bear has been my neighbor for quite a few years. She passes by my cabin every few weeks, during certain times of year, on the route she walks around her territory. She's polite, and never causes trouble. This year she has two cubs.
The bear track photo is from a different bear. The photo of numerous tracks are sea otter

I really like finding animal #TracksAndSigns when out in the field - here we have the footprints of an #impala (top) and #hyena (bottom) which visited the same site within a few hours while the ground was still wet after a heavy rain shower.
