There is just one reason that anti-trans bigots invented the "groomer" narrative: without it, trans-ness obviously threatens no one, and depriving trans people of their human rights is clearly immoral. One of the most valuable things you can do as a #TransAlly is loudly and publicly proclaim that the "groomer" narrative is a lie.

If you can't bring yourself to be a #TransAlly for the sake of trans people, be one out of self-interest. Every time someone has the courage to reveal something about themselves that is culturally taboo, they're making it easier for all of us to escape the shame of something society tells us we must not talk about. The very least we can do is stand with them.

Updated my name at the doctor and like clockwork my pharmacist changed my name in their computer and started addressing me by it (I go often enough that they know me on sight) without missing a beat.

No awkward conversation. No questions. Just seamless.

This is how it’s done people.

When there’s currently no transgender women competing at elite level in World Athletics competitions, it’s obvious that their decision to preemptively exclude them is being led by the transphobic fringe set on spreading hate and fear.

I personally don’t see the attraction of athletics, but my heart goes out to women all over the world who now feel less welcome taking part in the sports they love.

Feminism is not about exclusion. Feminism should be about empowering women to make their own choices, live free from discrimination, and lead lives doing what they love. This should be especially true for our trans sisters.

None of us are free until all of us are free.

Called the state Vital Records office this morning to get clarification on exactly which forms I need to mail in for my birth certificate update. I launched into an explanation of what I was doing and the moment that the lady who answered heard I was changing both name and gender her tone changed from disinterested professional to warm and encouraging, even congratulating me on getting this far. Such a nice reception from a total stranger. 🥰 #TransAlly

went out with my housemate on Saturday night after an event she put on. i used to hate going to nightclubs, and maybe i still wouldn't do it on the reg. but being able to do it in a proper queer space and as my authentic self was a source of such unbelievable joy. instead of being stuck inside my own head and panicking about how to behave, i was just present, and doing what felt normal. what an incredibly freeing sensation 💕

related, a question for #trans & #TransAlly #sewing enthusiasts - would more info on drafting/tailoring for trans bodies interest you? i’m still a newbie so i don’t have all the answers, but i’d love to collaborate with people to on build a corpus of knowledge.

finding clothes that fit well was a surprisingly big early transition hurdle, and the steep learning curve (and ongoing struggle to find clothes i actually want to wear) is why i got interested in sewing and alterations to begin with.

I have a feeling that if the Bird Site imploded and J.K. Terfling had to move over to Mastodon, she wouldn't have too nice a time here. Even if she built her own instance, many would simply defederate from it and she'd just continue to boil in her own sauce.
