We're once again on the verge of losing #CarFreeHayes. Please let SFMTA know that you not only support the current program, but want it made permanent!

Someone was just telling me this didn't happen so here's a reminder that in 2021, an unusually candid SFMTA admitted the reason they decided to scrap bus lanes for the 24 Divisadero was to preserve parking.
#TransitFirst charter vs #TransitLast reality.

Fifty years of #TransitFirst policy and we still have streets that look like this.
Come join our #HayesValley community meeting tonight at 7pm, to hear from VisionBlvd about replacing the Central Freeway with new housing, transit, and green space:

This SFMTA blog post about the #TransitFirst policy turning 50 includes a quote saying it's not good enough. “Transit-First must no longer be advisory. [New policies are] needed so that public transit, cycling and walking are more than aspirational.” -SF State Prof. Jason Henderson. I agree. https://www.sfmta.com/blog/san-franciscos-transit-first-policy-turns-50

I doubt I'll get called on, so here's my draft comment.

I would sit at this bench but how is the bus driver supposed to see me?
So now I'm standing in the street - in more danger than if the stop was at the corner with no bench or structure.
There's 2 of us waiting for just this bus - but the two drivers who parked here however long ago get the priority over all the transit riders.

I'm glad SFMTA improved the timeline for removing parking in bus stops.
But this still gives no time estimate for the last 300 stops. In practice, that means the work drags on for years and may never be done.
Even if and when all this promised work is done, it only applies to the front 20' of the stop, so riders on the second car of the N-Judah train will *still* experience this picture.
It's like pulling teeth to make #TransitFirst actually happen. #sfpol

Standing along upper Market Street which has 6 lanes devoted to cars. A truck parked in one bike lane is making it a 7th. There’s no prioritization for the bus I’m waiting for—see it? stuck in traffic? it’s late—or for the F streetcar on the other side. #TransitFirst
When it comes to deaths due to traffic violence we are going backwards, not forwards. Its time for the city to stop mollifying drivers and giving lip service to #VisionZero and #TransitFirst. Governing is hard in a polarized city but we need real leadership from our #SFmayor, #SFBOS, and #sftma. #CarFreeValencia might be a good start.

Buses – like libraries, police, fire protection, public schools, and roads – aren’t free. We pay taxes. And I would gladly pay more taxes to support #TransitFirst policies
Buses Shouldn't Be Free

Rare example of SF following its own #TransitFirst policy nicely. Bus bulbs extend the sidewalk into the parking lane, so the 12-Folsom can stop without pulling in and out, it’s never blocked by cars, and there’s plenty of space to wait.
Makes you feel respected and prioritized as a bus rider.
