Might be impractical to prosecute everyone who had a hand in #January6 attack, but #TransitionalJustice toolkit has other possibilities, like #lustration (basically disqualification from holding public office and key admin posts). Here’s a news item/primer from 2014 co-authored by @mariapopova.

Unfortunately, #MAGA world continues to see that exercise as something partisan and corrupt, so #DOJ must take the next step to seek #accountability. Following political violence and episodes of oppression, #TruthAndReconciliation commissions are sometimes used to effect a political transition.

#TRC sometimes do and sometimes don't enact #justice in the form of criminal prosecution, but they can be impt for collecting and assembling informed, fact-based record of events. They are first and foremost CLARIFYING exercises.

THAT'S the importance of the testimony.
