I love it when trees grow on rocks. It shows just how determined and resilient they can be, if we let them.
This oak is part of one of the few remaining areas of temperate rainforest in the UK - look at the tree ferns growing on it.
We need to protect and extend these precious remnants.

In Western #Australia #Marri #trees (known as #GnaamaBoorna in the local #Aboriginal #Menang language) are pruned over decades, even centuries to take on a bowl or well shape and collect & store #water.
(Gnaama = hole for water, & Boorna = tree or timber.)
Living up to four hundred years, they are often found in ceremonial areas, along #SongLines, or high on hills where water was hard to access.

People don’t realize just how different the forests, farms, and cities of Eastern North America looked in the 19th C because they were dominated by American elm and American chestnut trees, both wiped out now due to diseases. We can bring them back, but only with efforts like these.

If I get up really early in the summertime, turn left out of my house, walk about 50 metres, and then look back, this is what I might see.
Of course, this all depends on it being a sunny morning, with a light mist, but the oak trees and the lane between them are always there...
