20:00 Tuesday - I’m told by a local that the Benton City #fire has spread along the north slope of the Horse Heaven Hills from near Yakitat Road to near Webber Canyon and the northwest end of Badger Canyon - a distance of about 15 km.
Fire behavior should become less erratic before too long as temperatures cool and relative humidity climbs, but it may remain breezy through Thursday.

Today’s dry cold front will create dangerous #fire #weather conditions in the Columbia Basin where wind gusts are forecast to reach 90 km/h with temperatures above 30°C and relative humidity values under 25% this afternoon.
A red flag warning is in effect for that area from 11:00 to 21:00 today including the #TriCities.

Interesting clouds this morning southeast of the #TriCities. These are formed by the air being forced up by the ridge south of US 12 between Wallula and Walla Walla.
As the air moves northeastward and rises, it reaches the point where the temperature equals the dew point of the parcel, forming clouds downwind of the ridge.

Rainfall was feast or famine in the Columbia Basin yesterday as isolated thunderstorms dropped heavy rain. A station near Badger Mountain in Richland recorded 13 mm of rain while one 8 km away recorded less than 1 mm and stations in Pasco didn’t record any rain.

Man I forgot that more than a few people in the #TriCities just let their dogs bark incessantly at night. I almost never hear long lasting barking in my #Portland neighborhood.
Doesn’t help that in suburbia the sound travels much further, so when one dog starts barking others from a few streets over decide they need to join in.
Control your pets, people.
It you’re willing to make a brief jaunt over to Facebook, here’s a video I made a few years back about really old Mount St. Helens ash embedded in ice age flood deposits outside Benton City, Washington.

Wildfires in Alberta and Saskatchewan have brought #smoke season to parts of the Pacific Northwest early.
Looks like #Bellingham is seeing it this morning. Smoky haze is possible in places like #Seattle, #Portland, #Spokane, and the #TriCities late today and tomorrow.
The next #weather event comes in this weekend to change the wind pattern to drive smoke away and cool us down.
