A group of Mangrove Jewel Bugs (Calliphara nobilis) spotted on a leaf at Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve, Singapore, on 3 Sept 2023. When I attempted to take shots of another gathering, half of them flew away, so I left that group alone.

I think this is a member of the family Miridae. E.g. plant bugs. Like all true bugs, these have sucking mouth parts, this one was found in Central Park in late May.

In Singapore, they feed on the seeds of Sea Hibiscus (Hibiscus tiliaceus). In agricultural countries, they feed on cotton bolls, causing stains on the cotton, hence their common name.
