Does anyone know how i can make #truenas scale accept a file vdev , it all works fine on the cli (zpool create, import, export, etc) but it won't show up in the storage dashboard gui, only on the dataset tab, but that doesn't allow me to use it for the stuff that i would want to use truenas for (shares, containers, vms). #zfs #linux (i don't really have enough hardware flying around to test it with proper storage) (i pinky promise it's just for testing)

Letzte Woche stieß ich bei VMs in Proxmox mit iscsi-Festplatten auf einen Bug im zugrunde liegenden qemu, der dazu führte, dass die bootende VM abstürzte (isci gerät wurde als ausgelastet interpretiert).
Zufälligerweise gab es gestern das PVE 7.4 release mit einer neuen Qemu-Version, in welcher der Bug behoben ist! Upgrade von 7.3 auf 7.4 gemacht und Zack, die VMs laufen! 🥳 🎆

5 bestehende VMs in Proxmox importiert. Alle liegen auf einem Truenas iscsi-Device.
4/5 starten problemlos.
1/5 meldet beim Start im Proxmox-syslog:
kvm: iSCSI Busy/TaskSetFull/TimeOut (retry #1 in 0 ms): TASK_SET_FULL
malloc(): invalid next size (unsorted)

Bin dann schnell via Google auf diesen Bug gestoßen:

The case for my all-flash #TrueNAS build has arrived. It's the Silverstone CS280. I'm going with the name #smolNAS since I do like naming my builds. HBA and M.2 to PCIe adapter (for NIC) should arrive Friday. I hope that pans out like I think it will. #homelab #datahoarder

Naaa super, hingesetzt, #Script geschrieben um mein (neues) #ZFS vom #NAS auf die USB platte per zfs send/receive von snapshots halbwegs brauchbar zu automatisieren.
Und dann auf https://github.com/jimsalterjrs/sanoid gestossen, mit dem Script syncoid drin....
Tut alles was es braucht, mei mei. (Snapshots legts #TrueNAS automatisch an, braucht also nur was um die aufs USB Laufwerk zu kriegen, allesamt.).

Nope, it's not a broken CPU fan, that thing works nicely, I can hear it...
It is only one value of the CPU valuesthis graph seems to take in account, the others are ignored. (user/system/nice/wait/..., more than one, anyone?)

System was busy on reading LOTS of data from 8xspinning rust and writing into the cache M2 SSDs and off to the network.

Are there people here running a NAS with a #atomicpi? Since it's x86 based it can run #truenas or #unraid. And it's even more powerful as basic Synology or QNAP stations. I will need a new NAS eventually and building a complete new NAS with desktop components is rather costly. A #raspberrypi is not powerful enough and doesn't have x86 support, then i came across the AtomicPi with an Intel quadcore. Most HDD cases for a Rasperry also can hold a AtomicPi. I am not sure, where to ask regarding this

Defekte Platte beim #TrueNAS getauscht. Raid wird neu "versilbert". Bitte keinen Stromausfall in den nächsten 5 Stunden bitte XD (und nein, leider ist in dem Ding kein Platz mehr für eine "hot spare" :S

Zu #TrueNAS habe ich hier schon einiges gefunden, zu #Unraid quasi gar nichts. Hätte ich nicht erwartet. Dabei sind beides hochspannende - und durchaus unterschiedliche - NAS Alternativen zu den Fertigsystemen von QNAP oder Synology. Zum Glück haben beide sehr aktive Support Communities. So ganz entschieden habe ich mich noch nicht.

Seeking advice for #TrueNAS
Is TrueNAS suitable for users that have experience wirh Syno DSM, but don't have deep knowledge about linux command shell wizardry? I can't find real help in the FAQ or the manual regarding this point. For example, do you have to install all software through via command line or is it possible through the GUI? Both OS are unix-based and are accessible through a GUI, but how user-friendly is TrueNAS in comparison?

Bin nun gerade dabei mein #TrueNAS Core zu sichern und von den Jails Backups anzulegen, und dann werde ich es wagen mal auf TrueNAS Scale "upzugraden". Ich bin echt hibbelig und freue mich endlich auf Debian-Zeugs auf meinem NAS 😍
