@alastor8472 Well I haven't seen a single #TrustAndSafety or #moderation leadership role advertised for any of them - And if they are going to use the team leadership they used to have, they are going to carry on with the crap they used to have all over again. I cringe when I hear interviews with some of them - somehow seeming proud that they learned their trade "on the job".

That's not how #Policy and #Safety works.

The only people who have lasted in, or are willing to go to #META / #Facebook, #Google, #Twitter and even places like #Uber, #Match and #AirBNB are either people with no experience at all who want a year of a big firm on their #resume or people who are willingly more than happy to leave #Ethics and #morality at the door and trade them for a (very!) few pieces of silver.

@atomicpoet @alter_kaker #Meta and #Facebook have dire #Moderation and utterly inflexible #TrustAndSafety practices, as we all know. I am a little worried about how much extra load moderating the unpaid lobby servers would put onto unpaid volunteers.

Bluesky users are having a massive #TrustAndSafety conversation in the wake of the #Bluesky team’s decision to platform an individual with a history of violent and hate-driven posts.

In a thread chastising the Bluesky team, one person mentioned the #SantaClaraPrinciples. I’m pretty new to T&S discussions so I had never heard of these before, but I’m so glad I did and I urge others to read them too. It’s not a silver bullet, but it’s a very interesting starting point.

Over the past 8 months the Trust and Safety Teaching Consortium @StanfordCyber - a loosely-organized coalition of academic, industry and non-profit experts - has been creating teaching materials with one goal: Help make the internet a safer place for everyone.

The open-source syllabus is available for everyone who prepares the next generation of trust & safety professionals, engineers and PMs.

Thanks to @shelbygrossman and @alex for their leadership in establishing the consortium and all the work it takes to get things done and to create real and valuable output.

You might be surprised to know, that the supposed "freespeech absolutist" #elonmusk at first agreed to suppress abuse and misinformation on the #brazilianelection, and agreed to keep the ban on the #babylonbee.

It is kinda hilarious to hear the progression of when Elon stopped following advice and began to kneecap himself. E.g. Refusing to hire moderators to prevent fraud on #TwitterBlue (hah we know how that turned out)

And to thank Yoel for the advice that otherwise was keeping his company afloat, Elon spread lies about Yoel's dissertation and subsequently overwhelmed him with death threats by his army of sycophants.

I don't know Yoel personally, but every account of him indicates he was doing his job honorably and, from a #TrustAndSafety standpoint, it was all by-the-book. And for that, he now has to live in fear.

A business that (I *think*!) I would like to see exist:

A paid service that allows you to delegate trust and safety activities for your Mastodon instance to them, owned and staffed by people who are very experienced and qualified to provide that service. Ideally, instances advertise that trust and safety is handled by this provider.

Open Call for #Fediverse #Moderation Panel

Some of you know I have been working on non-profit funding to create an organisation ("IFTAS") to support moderators and admins. This is a non-profit entity that employs moderators and advisors to improve the tools and policies we have access to, and to present a strong voice to platform developers describing the tools and features needed to conduct the work.
