Considering Turkey's see-saw evolution on #democracy and #ruleoflaw & its position on religious matters , I agree.
My periodisk objections:
1) 🇹🇷 fails to qualify as a democracy
2) 🇹🇷 acceps no diversity, cf its treatment of Kurds & other minorities
3) Religion should not mix with politics. Looking at e.g. how 🇹🇷 society reacts to #quranburning in 🇸🇪 🇩🇰 ....

The most remarkable thing about Izmir for me were the public spaces along the water front. A broad lane with grass, bicycle lane, fishing posts and running corridor is being used by people throughout the day. In the afternoon and at night people gather here and enjoy each other's company, music from some performer and their snacks and drinks.
In Greece this place would have been laden in concrete and occupied by cafeterias and restaurants, to be enjoyed by those who can pay.
