Ngl, I'm not mad about it. Twemoji was my least favorite #emoji set, and is the worst thing about #Discord imho. Here's hoping they switch Twemoji out for #NotoColor 🤞

So the #Twitter fallout actually broke one of our business processes today 🤦🏻‍♂️. Our online order printer used #Twemoji to handle any emojis that might be present in the data we get from customers...Turns out, Twemoji had hardcoded #MaxCDN links which shut down yesterday, and the Twitter engineers in charge of the project were laid off. Lol! The software wasn't resilient enough to recover from a missing file asset, so our orders stopped getting printed. Thanks Elon! https://github.com/twitter/twemoji/issues/580

Now that a certain unhinged billionaire man-child is in charge of #Twitter, I wonder, what will become of the #twemoji project?

Those emoji aren’t just on Twitter. They’re also right here on Mastodon and in apps such as Discord.

It would be nice if someone forked it and kept it going. Would be even better if some of the original devs were involved. They’re damn good emoji, and it would be a shame if they withered on the vine.

Wait. It just hit me. What will happen to the #Twemoji now that #Elon is in charge of #Twitter?

We could argue that Twitter was a shitty company even without #Musk, but they made the most popular #emoji out there - even #Mastodon use them as a default. I personally love those #emojis, and it would be saddening to me if that's how it all ends :birdsite:

We recently stumbled across their #Twemoji (Twitter #emoji) project, which is picked up by #Mozilla. The twemoji even appear in #Tor #Browser! Not even #FontAwesome works over Tor.

Twitter do some pretty cool #openSource stuff - despite the fact we care little about #twitter as a platform.

This new project of theirs may result in nothing - but it could be substantial.
