The curve of the North Pier at the mouth of the River Wear looks serene on a fine spring day like this, but imagine pulling up a chair and watching the same view when a storms delivers raging seas crashing over that same pier and lighthouse from the comfort of your living room!

Little more than a week left before the arrival of 'meteorological Spring', as they call it (although Spring proper in the Northern Hemisphere doesn't arrive until 20 March.

'Conversation Piece' – 22 bronze figures by Spanish artist/sculptor Juan Muñoz, on the seafront at South Shields, Tyne & Wear. Known locally as the 'Weebles', each figure is around 1.5 metres tall and weighs a ¼ ton.
I reckon, that when no one's looking, these slightly creepy figures start rocking and turning their heads!

The key obstacle to re-opening lines like the #Ashington #Blyth & #Tyne line was the railway bureaucracy embedded in the Department of Transport who repeatedly prioritized Inter City and promoted the removal of assets that would enable growth in services. That's why the bill for re-opening #ABT includes re-dualling sections of line and a whole new signalling system.
