What I've learned about #academia over these #UCUstrikes is that too many of us (& for sure I'm not immune!) value the "output" of our jobs over our colleagues we do it with.

Sure, we need to enjoy our job and feel it is making a difference; and we want our stuff read and engaged with - it's what gives us our worth. But the chronic alienation of contemporary academic work is a massive factor of the current ills, which we fundamentally need to address.

I’m 23 and I am one week away from burnout.

I love my masters and I love tutoring. No amount of love for what I do changes the fact that it is work. I can account for my intrinsic needs and tutor less. Most people cannot.

I have to do a teaching qualification called PGCAP. Normally I like doing some CPD but honestly, on top of all the other unreasonable workload, I have never resented anything more. Lectures, workshops, project students, tutorials, marking, somehow doing some research, and then PG-effing-CAP as the exhaustion cherry on the burnout cake. It feels unfair because the tutors seem nice, but I have loathed the time I've had to spend in the sessions. #ucustrike #UCUstrikes
