@elilla Like the United Federation of Instances?
----
Edit: since I'm getting some likes from people who may not have been here long enough to remember the drama this is referring to, here's the long explanation:

And if you like digging in the trash for all the juicy bits, click here to jump into the bin --> #UFoI
This is exactly why I tried to start up the #UFoI .. to basically make the process of defederating a process where people talk rather than just block silently without hearing the evidence or discussing the problem.
@Dennis1212 I need to be more involved here. Unfortunately, stupid people keep jumping into my timeline there. Flerthers... Ye gods, what a silly bunch. But in following the responses, I catch cool stuff from RedsRhetoric and so many others. In fact, one of the provisions of qoto.org I got from @freemo via email, "It's OK to join if you are just a fan of STEM, so long as you aren't a Flat-earther or such."
#UFoI has been quiet lately as I look, unless I'm missing stuff. My forays into political talk leaves people confused and angry for some reason. I wave friendly greetings to the whole political spectrum and everyone gets mad at me anyway.
Latest reactions, thoughts, musings on the #UFoI - United Federation of Instances. Yes it is relevant, potentially affects all of us, and is kind of like being present at the birth of a star...

@freemo @realcaseyrollins @ufoi @casey-magazine @stux I like the part where @PKMNLives plays the role of a "bad actor" by definition, decries how #UFoI "legitimizes" bad actors, and has no sense of shame or irony that he doesn't need #UFoI to "legitimize" his behavior. Nice it of work, that.
@PKMNLives @freemo @realcaseyrollins @ufoi @casey-magazine @stux
"[Qoto was] defederated for many reasons (some receipts attached) that had nothing to do with that users, and everything to do with their moderation policies or rather lack thereof."
I find this fascinating... "receipts" paraded about in fact show sensible moderation policy, rather than a "lack" of anything. Is it possible claiming "receipts" hoping for no discussion of them or actual reading of them takes place? Looks suspicious, like a bad actor move. How does #UFoI "legitimize" this?
@realcaseyrollins @ufoi @casey-magazine It's definitely easier to deal with flat earthers. "Antifa" person gets called out for acting fash... "HARASSMENT..." An appeal was made by @freemo to discuss the problem as an adult. "MASS SPAMMING CRYBABY!!!" People trying to set up an equitable system to voluntarily resolve these kinds of problems... resulting in death threats, urges to suicide, violent snuff video towards people working on the project. "It legitimizes bad actors!" Right, @PKMNLives. I trust you to know what being a bad actor is all about and how #UFoI could legitimize them. It must really tire you do like any other flat earther with projecting.
@PKMNLives @realcaseyrollins @ufoi @casey-magazine @freemo Define, βBad actor," please. Also please define the mechanism by which #UFoI shields the person or group you have defined.
@SwiftOnSecurity Also, though I haven't followed it closely, I know that an effort called #UFoI has started to try to develop a more transparent, accountable process for making federation decisions among instances.

Would a #fediverse #relay possibly be a good thing to integrate into #UFoI?
:tower:
@MetalSamurai @kichae @futurebird @oliphant I wonder if #UFoI is considering something formal in that avenue, or if it's just a mutual federation treaty at this point. I haven't really been paying attention to what's going on there.
@ufoi The TL;DR is that I'm not really a fan of centralized moderation, but when it comes to something to shield users from unsavory characters on the network, the #UFOI is probably the best and most accurate way to do so and should probably be the #Fediverse standard TBH.
The article will be more in depth ofc.
@Bro666 @austinkocher @Mastodon
Or even better: everyone with its own domain like it was with blogs you can follow with RSS feeds.
Do you know what Mastodon did wrong? Too many users on instances that blocks entire other instances for ideological reasons and their users are not aware (or fooled into thinking their instance is kindly blocking "bigotry", "fascism" etc).
#UFoI This is why the "United Federation of Instances" initiative recently started: https://ufoi.org/
To understand the size of this "war" between people fragmenting the Fediverse and people trying to stop this trend, be aware the a person from the latter side was harrassed by people from the former to the point of having a seizure when was messaged with the image of a man violently killing a woman and the text "kill yourself".
Is this whole thing worse than Twitter? If you consider the impact of Twitter on the whole society maybe no, but from a human point of view what these Mastodon pioneers did is much worse.
@lxo @mediocreape @freemo @lxo makes a good point here. I think the "alternate walled garden" analogy is misleading. #ufoi is an agreement between gardeners that they will not build walls between themselves.
@LouisIngenthron Dude trying to help build #UFoI was pushed into the hospital with a heart attack seeing death threats, urges to suicide, and snuff video. I am not happy, and I am not inclined to give those participating the "benefit of a doubt." @freemo may have a link to something "suitable for a press release," but I'm not in a position to clarify.
I see too many people being the monster they claim they are fighting. Every time... Every GOD DAMNED FUCKING TIME I wonder if I'm being just a bit too dark and cynical, I have this shit to remind me I need to lower my expectations a little more.
The group of people who are trying to divide the fediverse seem to have reached a new low.. They have a tool that lists how many instances block a particular instance, but it is highly manipulative.
For starters it is hand curated.. so they exclude blocks against their own instances and only includes instances they actually dislike.
Worse yet they curate a list ordered by "most blocked".. problem is they use the number of instances that block. They game the system by having large number of single-user instances. So instances in the top 50 may only be blocked by a few hundred people but still appear as if the blocks are significant....
This is why we need transparency, its why we need the https://UFoI.org
