I work for the , manual labour collecting bins, removals, recycling etc. I work full time.

Even with the Government's proposed 6% pay-rise its not enough for a mortgage, the food price rises etc. I'm making ends meet by living with my parents (at 46). Not ideal!! I also changed my hours so I work double hours at weekends, bank holidays etc.

All of our team struggle financially, even those married to nurses etc.

Why @FT do you think consumers borrow more because they are optimistic? The personal loan part is more likely a result of the cost of living crisis.

25-minute analysis:

How did achieve highest inflation rate and lowest growth among G7 countries?

As well as surging interest rates costing many households 100s of pounds/month?

There's austerity & COVID-19, but in end: "It's , Stupid"

Alert: Yet another potentially silly question.
If raising is supposed to be helping the economy, why does it have to make it worse for most people already suffering from crisis?

Capping food prices will just lead to even more farmers squeezed out of their livelihoods and more shortages. If you want to address the issue rejoin the single market and increase benefits.

The UK’s new semiconductor policy involves support of initially £200m. Put that against Biden’s $52B. If only we could be part of a big push within a huge market on our doorstep. Maybe we could call it a single market?

Will anything revive UK productivity? | Financial Times

A good long read about productivity challenges in the UK.

[probably under paywall]

Interestingly, “the most far-reaching change — the widespread adoption of hybrid working — does not seem to have helped or harmed productivity to a significant degree, measured as output per hour worked.”

So the true culprits of rising inflation are businesses? 🤔 i guess they don't have to buy their products from anywhere and import them? they just grow everything themselves out of thin air to sell to consumers? How did Andrew Bailey qualify for his top job? 🤔 🤔 🦄🦄

there's always cash to pay for whatever they want. This country is bleeding taxpayer money and racking up eyewatering debt. Yet there's only cash for the projects the govt wants to pay for. Not the projects the country needs.
