I'm guessing your contact will already have seen this article from yesterday in the , but in case not (or in case anyone else reading this is interested)...

"Nina Cresswell has successfully defended a libel case brought against her in the High Court by the man, William Hay, who sexually assaulted her and whose identity she revealed online in order to protect other women."

UK: Over 120 lawyers including Eighteen barristers and six king’s counsel have signed a declaration vowing to withhold their services in respect of supporting new fossil fuel projects and action against climate protesters exercising their right of peaceful protest”.

While it breaks bar rules they have a compelling argument. It's great to see kiwi Jolyon Maugham KC leading the charge.

Extraordinary - the Home Secretary ignored advice from officials that she was acting unlawfully by failing to meet asylum seekers’ essential living needs and protect them from destitution in the cost of living crisis

She knew she was acting unlawfully, and she did nothing

Braverman should be sacked for this

If the SRA really finds its teeth, things will become very uncomfortable indeed for those solicitors who routinely act for those who don’t enjoy public scrutiny

As Nadhim Zahawi’s lawyers, Osborne Clarke, have perhaps already found out - thanks to dogged work from @danneidle 💪

As well as the UK Government showing a genuine interest in tackling the issue of SLAPPs, there’s something of a pincer movement coming from the Solicitors’ Regulation Authority

Yesterday the SRA reminded solicitors that that “representing [their] client's interests does not override public interest obligations, so when solicitors cross the line into SLAPPS, we will take action”

“The abuse of the UK legal system by powerful individuals and vested interests to intimidate journalists should be a subject of national shame”- Katherine Viner, editor in chief of the Guardian

But will time soon be up for those using SLAPP (strategic lawsuits against public participation) suits to deter/ silence investigations?

I rather wonder, if the (late and much discussed) online care bill is now to ban self harm advice does that mean it'll also address anti-vacc? You know, the online self harm conspiracy theory that has killed tens of thousands?

This is the correct decision.

The current UK laws on abortion are certainly discriminatory against disabled people, but the answer to that is to extend the limit for all abortions, not to use disability rights arguments to limit women's autonomy.

I should declare my interest - I was the Legal Director at Good Law Project when we launched our pandemic-related legal challenges, including action over the Government's unlawful VIP lane for PPE contracts and the chronic use of private emails for Government business

So it would be fair to say I'm interested in holding to account anyone who chose to misuse their power to profit from the pandemic

“The issue [of the next referendum on Scottish independence] returns from the realm of law to the realm of politics” - @davidallengreen

Successive Tory PMs have seemed to relish their hostile relations with the Scottish government

But for many Scottish people, being locked in a union without a say in our future feels intolerable

So what next?

@davidallengreen makes logical and phonaesthetic sense, given and , with reserved for that which actually applies, as you explained, to UK constitutional and legacy EU law.

@DrMDempster There's a really popular legal blogger @davidallengreen who writes about law and policy. He was asking advice about what people thought would be a good hashtag. He was using but was concerned that people would not realise it included all jurisdictions. Some of those tags might have been about that.
He will almost certainly write a blog about tomorrow's result. I think you would be entertained by this one about the UKGov giving up the .gb domain name.
