Friend complaining that because of #ulez they need to spend £20k on a new car, and that it’s ludicrous because they hardly use the car anyway. With that money they could pay the charge for 1600 days, if they use the car as little as they claim they could continue to drive their current car for 30 years and still come out better off. Somehow I don’t think the actual charge is the problem.

Living with illegally high air pollution is worse than smoking. It takes 2.3 years off your life on average, and in some countries as much as 6 years. We have all the solutions we need, and it’s mostly the boring simple stuff: #ElectricBus, #trains, #trams, #ULEZ, banning wood stoves in urban areas, rolling out heat pumps/networks, street trees everywhere, and restricting/banning cars as much as politically possible.

Surely this is a public call to vandalism and damage? He’s been advocating damage for days now. He’s called Sadiq Khan a liar and more. People driving cars that are destroying the planet and causing people to live unhealthy lives and die prematurely is the problem.

What kind of asshole thinks its OK to drive a car that does this?

FYI I managed to live the first three decades of my life without a car, quite easily.

London’s plan to charge drivers of polluting cars sparks protests and stirs political passions.

Known as the ULEZ, it levies a £12.50 daily charge on most petrol cars and vans built before 2006 and on pre-2015 diesel vehicles.

ULEZ was introduced in the centre in 2019 and expanded in 2021. From Tuesday it covers all of Greater London, including the sprawling outer suburbs where more than half the city’s 9 million people live.
