The one thing I do that genuinely, fundamentally challenges my degrowthist, buy-nothing proclivities is solo #ULhiking. The gear just gets ferociously better with every passing year, new materials come on line, new cottage practices like this set themselves up and I want to support them, etc. It really is in profound tension with my other, deeply-held values in a way I haven’t yet been able to reconcile.
