Today, 13th January is #Lithuania ’s #freedom defenders' day - 32 years ago today 14 people lost their lives and hundreds were injured by #Soviet troops near the #Vilnius TV tower, as Moscow tried to topple the #Lithuanian govt that declared #independence from the #USSR a year earlier.

Since the last population census in the #USSR almost exactly 33 years ago, the population of Belarus has fallen from 10,2 million people to less than 9,5 million. While other countries grow & prosper, Belarus loses its people - hundreds of thousands were forced into exile.
