Cloud

The thing is, I'm sure it already exists by a dozen fly-by-night companies. But this has to be a robust solution, it has to have hooks for all sorts of platforms that will be just as likely to want to build their own versions of the same idea if it succeeds, or lock themselves into stupid exclusivity deals ("Sorry, can't pay your bank bills with Amazon Homestead, they're only availble with Samsung Smartstart," that rubbish.) And it has to be able to allow access to the internet somehow when people want to look up how to fix their lamp, but in a guarded way that limits redirects, protects against virus downloads, phishing attacks, all that joyous stuff.

Forget confusing flat design and minimalism; a return to skeuomorphic ui, with big elements that can be laid out in ways that are comfortable to them. We're talking the revenge of Microsoft Bob.

My (not-so-)new favourite thing are blurred+noise texture wallpapers. Why?
- gradients/color blends are very soothing
- they allow recreation but are not overly distracting
- easier to color-balance than high-detail images
- a bit noise filter adds texture/grain and is borderline ASMR/synaesthesia
- they are way more scaling-resilient and therefore resolution-agnostic. They will further blur themselves into place (:

An example: WXP wallpapers Bliss and Sunset

Are you on Bluesky as well? There's a Tweetdeck-like UI for that now:

@hyperplanes To turn this on it's head:

I wish more tech people were evaluating the of features by how annoying it is to use after using it a 1000 times.

@harold I just noticed this on Friday when I was using it. Ridiculous.

20+ years later and we have learned nothing.

I just added a suggestion for an app that searches for Open License images in multiple databases; hopefully the idea comes across clearly! gitlab.gnome.org/bertob/app-id

@UschiAachen die mobile ist inakzeptabel. Wieso Pop-Up-Fenster? Die waren schon vor 20 Jahren verpönt.

@kissane CC @Gargron

A very helpful article which reflects most of the pain I had when migrating to .

Again a proof that success is tightly coupled with and that is one of the weak points of the original Mastodon app. The haptics of are much better and this is why I love elk.zone/ on the desktop.

This article contains good discussion points for a better and I highly appreciate the balanced and thoughtful approach.

I want more transparency from web search results pages. Why were some keywords discarded? Why were others replaced with entirely different terms? Too often, I find myself staring at a list of results that bear no resemblance to the original query. Occasionally, I do find the substitutions useful — but more often than not, I don’t even see the connection between my search query and the results.

Urgh, I love Juxtopposed's videos!😍

Have a look at their latest video

world's shortest UI/UX design course:
farside.link/https://www.youtu
(or YT: youtube.com/watch?v=wIuVvCuiJh)

In the process of their video, they've build a site, where you can get inspirations for your next design on a per component basis (e.g. buttons, links etc.). Love it! 🎨

The tool is called "Stack sorted":

Ik ben echt geen noob op het gebied van internet, maar 'meldingen' van medemastodonners in de mastodon app zijn ronduit onzinnig vormgegeven. Een miniem puntje naast het belletje en dan moet je al mazzel hebben dat je 'meldingen' op 'alles' of ''vermelding' hebt staan. Volgt u het nog?

Pokaždé mě udivuje a rozčiluje, když vývojáři nemyslí na zcela základní ovládání formuláře pomocí klávesnice.
Toto je prosím , ověření uživatele na . Objeví se formulář, input políčko nemá focus, tj. uživatel musí do něj kliknout, potom po zadání číselného kódu se automaticky sice zvýrazní tlačítko SUBMIT, ale opět nefunguje klávesnice, nestačí stisknout Enter, musí se opět myší kliknout 🤦

Websites/Webapps having one _primary_ button for "Register" and another _secondary_ button for "Login".

Let me translate this for you:

To new customers: come in, come in! You are very welcome!

To existing customers: Well, we don't really care about you...

And now consider which button will actually be pressed more often in a month - and by which margin!
