I've arrived in #Ubéda, which is in #Jaén province, two hours northeast of #Granada.

The buildings look different, the food is different, and, since it's Sunday morning, there's a #Catholic mass on TV at the local cafetería.

For me, the centuries of #Islamic culture here in #Andalucia were decisive in how my life has unfolded since I moved here. It's impossible to ignore it: it seems to emanate from the very soil.

But Catholicism has a very strong pull here too, even decades after Franco's death decreased its influence on national politics a bit.
