Once again #Westminster #unionists weaponise #Scotland initiative in order to further subjugate #holyrood to their will

This is not what was intended when the devolution settlement was made, nor is it in line with the promises #cameron made to con the scots in #indyref - if that ref settled the matter "for a generation" then the undertakings given then by #toriesOut should last that long also

Northern Ireland is changing quicker than most people thought it would. Also, the #Unionists can't quite come to terms with how much they are out of step with society here.

If anyone argues with that, I will direct you to last week #NI election - Sinn Fein are the largest party at the Assembly & local government. AND - they have the largest numbers of cllrs on Belfast City Council, once dominated by Unionism.

It is time for some uncomfortable truths for Unionism - they aren't appealing to the leafy wealthy areas of #NI anymore. Sinn Fein did if you look at where they gained seats last week - eg Balmoral! Plus some Unionists who voted must have given a transfer to them.

So what does that tell them about their current path - Unionism isn't coming out to vote & moderate #Unionists are voting for #Alliance is greater numbers. Why Jeff? #NIpolitics

There is quite a bit of work to be done before that vote is called. We need a white paper from the Irish Government about the way forward. We need citizen assemblies right across the island on the way forward. We can't prepare for unity the way the UK prepared for Brexit.

Harriett, I think you will see a United Ireland. Especially if the #Unionists keep proving to the #middleground, they aren't prepared to make #NI work.

@helvick I agree, he would have delivered quite a speech in #Stormont if it had been sitting. What an image that would have been to send to the world. 25 years after the #GoodFridayAgreement everyone of all shades, sitting together, working together for all. It would have won the #Unionists so much goodwill. But they went down the usual path and said no.

Just confirming what we all know...#Unionism isn't capable of operating in the 21st Century.

I suspect you underestimate the #vitriol that #sturgeon has had to endure .... that issue was just one alongside the threat #unionists felt & the jealousy of other parties at her success - but it is one that causes nasty comments from both sides to anyone they percieve might be on the other side of the argument

As an #SNP member, I'm appalled by the actions of #StephenFlynn in stabbing #IanBlackford in the back and sacking #PeteWishart. Flynn is creating disunity for the sake of his own political ambitions, at a time when support for #Independence is at its highest. This is beyond stupid. The SNP leadership and their Westminster MPs have to work hand in glove, not give ammunition to #Unionists.

As an #SNP member, I'm appalled by the actions of #StephenFlynn in stabbing #IanBlackford in the back and sacking #PeteWishart. Flynn is creating disunity for the sake of his own political ambitions, at a time when support for #Independence is at its highest. This is beyond stupid. Almost every other small historic country in Europe has succeeded in splitting from neighbours - often without blood

I see no reason why #Scotland should not also - but Scots have to want it and so far that is not clearly the case. Hence #IndyRef2 and the rejection of it for as long as possible by #English #Unionists who always control #Westminster

@ParaHandy You have to wonder at all the effort #unionists make to refuse a second referendum. If #DouglasRoss is right about the support for independence, then the NO vote would romp home and the issue really would be settled for a generation. Instead, they're running scared and don't dare to put it to the vote.

Tories say #London distorts economy and none in north can compete except by #race_to_bottom #wage_slavery. For 1000 years North has been shafted by south. Nothing will change while we are shackled to South.

Vote Northern Independence!

Reject any and every political party that does not offer northern autonomy. #Labour are #Unionists so I would never vote for them.

We need a new independence movement and party.
