A plan at the #UniversityofVirginia for “more diversity, less Confederacy” was supported by students and faculty. But fatcat Bert Ellis, one of those who rails against "wokeness", believes he knows better. He was appointed by Gov #Youngkin to the university’s board of trustees. Youngkin wants to eliminate DEI (diversity, equity, and Inclusion) learning programs and frames his brand of racism this way: “We have to celebrate excellence. We shouldn’t embrace equity at the expense of excellence.”

Soon after that, Ellis texted two other right-wing BOV members: "Check out this numnut who works for [the provost] & nothing to do but highlight slavery at UVA. This bloated bureaucracy has got to be slashed.”

The "numnut" is a distinguished full professor (& now vice-provost) w/dozens of pubs including 4 books
