Today, @TheGuardian joins the dots on #socialcare, the #HealthCareCrisis & #unpaidcarers:

'The issue of unpaid carers is not separate from the wider social care crisis. It is partly the lack of care workers – whether privately or publicly funded – that forces people to care for relatives & sometimes friends, themselves'.

As recent data show, there are over 5M unpaid carers, over half of whom commit more than 20 hours a week... ignoring (& tacitly exploiting them) is hardly sustainable!

Aaargh medication nightmare!

My husband arrived at the pharmacy (after I got a text saying the pills were ready) to find out that my other pills were done, but they still hadn't ordered the ones he asked them to order last week, when we discovered they forgot them.

He then phoned 111 to sort out emergency pills and is now off getting them #UnpaidCarers are heroes!

Each week in the #VirtualWards team who run a Community of Practice which is the highlight of the week. This weeks was a focus on #UnpaidCarers and it blew me away. From the carer who set the tone and the importance of this work (wife was in hospital 16 times last year, 3 times this year thanks to #HospitalAtHome to #VCSE #ICB Carer Leadership to #National collaboration. Really inspiring! All our sessions are on FutureNHS but how could we share more here? What would people like to hear about?

Sessions like these can often be inaccessible for many #UnpaidCarers … but being online means it’s easier to fit them around our caring responsibilities. A fabulous range of workshops ⬇️

If you know or work with people who are #UnpaidCarers then please take a moment to appreciate how that role impacts them. How much headspace it consumes. How much emotional labour it involves. And how (in some cases) it’s underpinned by chronic sorrow & feelings of loss.

They know unemployment through long covid/carers of long covid/shielders mean unemployment high not low!
