This will help ameliorate the incremental damage to the primary mirror created by particle impacts over the potentially much longer than anticipated lifetime of the observatory, thanks in part to the outstanding performance of #Ariane5 #VA256 last Christmas Day.
The whole sky will still be observable, albeit with additional scheduling constraints.
