So... has anyone heard anything about this future *new and improved* booster for this fall?
I'm starting to get quite annoyed that public health told us to cancel our summer booster to get this new one in the fall.
Is it still hypothetical? Is it real?
I guess we'll do like last year and get whatever is available with our flu shot...
when seemingly 90% of the population at this point has had #COVID, which -- need we remind Pauly -- is an insane virus that attacks basically anything it wants in the body and apparently seems to be a dormant sort of parasite that just keeps fucking up the body long after you're "cured", it seems we'd might as well just classify the entire population as "immunocompromised" and recommend the #vaccine to everyone
thank you for coming to my Ted Toot
funny seeing people now realizing Paul Offit is a piece of shit when it comes to the #COVID #vaccine
His whole career since the pandemic began has been being the "smart contrarian" for outlets looking to get a "mayyybe the vaccines aren't for everyone" voice under the guise of someone who -- usually -- wasn't an attention whore
anyone with children remembers him being the "don't approve the vaccine for children" voice in every. single. article.
fuck paul offit. gimme the booster.
From Los Angeles Times: Some good COVID news: New vaccine appears to work well against Pirola subvariant
The SARS-CoV-2 #virus #mutates much faster than our #science and #medical #infrastructure can adapt and respond, especially with the strong—and criminally negligent—#government resistance to adopting and maintaining serious, ongoing risk mitigation policies against the #disease.
The next #vaccine should be available soon, but may only be very effective for those like me who are 65+ and/or have #medical conditions

This is potentially big news. human trials are being prepared for a #heroin and #fentanyl #vaccine.
The vaccine helps the body generate antibodies to prevent the opioids from entering the brain. Without the reinforcing effects of the high, it becomes easier for the user to kick the habit. At the same time, the vaccine reduces the likelihood that an overdose will decrease respiratory rate to the point of death.

Sadly, some of the most at-risk individuals are antivax.

Got the second shot of shingrix vaccine against shingles yesterday and now have a strong immune response - mild 'flu like symptoms and general lassitude, so it is clearly working! There is evidence that it protects not just against shingles but also reduces the risk of dementia, so definitely worth it.
“This #HighExposure phenomenon is particularly relevant to patients and staff in healthcare settings, where they may be working on or sharing wards with people who emit large quantities of #SARSCoV2.
In the age of #Omicron, in the context of high community #prevalence and rapidly evolving #subvariants that can evade #immunity, it seems particularly reckless to rely on #vaccine or prior #infection acquired immunity as the only mechanism of protection against infection” https://mstdn.ca/@Billius27/110968515538936395

Reasons to wait a few weeks for the next booster…
-the new formulation should better match the current variants
- waiting a month or so will ⬆️the chances that your immunity is highest when cases peak (historically Dec-Feb).
Also, if you’ve had a recent infection, experts suggest waiting a few addtl months. https://www.nytimes.com/article/covid-booster-fall.html

I am not a doctor, but I do read science news. There are better vaccines at least plausibly coming in the next few years. Vaccination did exterminate smallpox, although it probably would not work for SARS-CoV-2 because that virus infects other animals.
We can reliably cure COVID-19 right now. The trouble is, you can get reinfected.

“#RSV sends about half a million children to emergency departments in the U.S. every year; somewhere between 58,000 and 80,000 of those children end up being hospitalized. The #CDC estimates that between 100 and 300 children die from RSV in any given year.
In a Phase 3 clinical trial, the Pfizer #vaccine was shown to reduce the risk of severe #LowerRespiratoryTract disease caused by RSV by 82% at three months after birth and 69% at six months.” https://scicomm.xyz/@HelenBranswell/110930337156889596
