Access Being the Veil

Have you ever heard the phrase "access behind the veil"? It may be understood in different ways but what does this mean biblically?

To break things down, a veil is a type of curtain or covering that hides whatever is behind it. When lifted, we're able to see what was once concealed and learn about what was underneath.

God says His Word is also veiled (2 Cor 4:3). To fully understand God, we must gain access behind this covering to learn what God is saying on a deeper level.

Revelation = Unveiling

There is a misconception that the Book of Revelation is about the end of the world.

The word “revelation”, in the Greek, comes from the root word “apokaluptō”, which means the destruction or removal of the veil. The purpose of a veil is to hide or conceal something; so this word really speaks of removing the covering in order to see/understand something that wasn’t known before.

Revelation 1:1, “[This is] the revelation of Jesus Christ…” Since we understand revelation to have a deeper meaning, we can see that John was really saying: “this is the unveiling of Jesus”. It’s not about destruction, but seeing who He truly is, so we can understand His plans of restoration.

Have you ever been told to “follow your heart”?
Contrary to popular belief, in Hebrew thought, there is no difference between your mind or your heart. In fact, the way you think, exposes the condition of your heart and your soul.

The word soul is the Hebrew word nephesh, and it speaks of your mind, desire, emotion, and passions. Our desires by nature are opposed to God, which is why our heart, mind, and soul can deceive us; unless, they have been renewed through the unveiling of Christ (ref Ps 51:5, Rom 12:2, Jer 17:9).

Jesus says that if we chose to serve Him, we are to follow Him (ref Jn 12:26). But to truly follow Him is to walk in what He taught - the mysteries of Scripture (ref Mat 13:11).

Carnal Mind

Jesus made a way through the veil, which was His flesh (ref Heb 10:20). The word flesh is the Greek word sarx, which is the same word for carnality. Jesus showed us how to walk by the Spirit, that is, to understand and walk out the Law Spiritually (ref Rom 8:4, Mat 5:17).

Living according to the flesh or carnally, is when we interpret the Law by the letter (literal and historical way) - this brings spiritual death (ref Rom 8:6, 2 Co 3:6). Christ, on the other hand, interpreted the Law the way it was intended to be interpreted - by the Spirit. This brings life and peace (ref Rom 8:6). Jesus removed the veil over the letter of the Law in order to reveal the Spiritual understanding.

The Scriptures Are Veiled

Did you know the scriptures within the Bible are said to be veiled or have a deeper meaning hidden within them?
The Apostle Paul says that there is a veil that lies over the Old Testament when it is read, but through Christ, the veil is taken away (ref 2Co 3:14-16). Jesus Himself said He didn’t come to do away with the law and the prophets, but to fulfill (ref Mat 5:17).

The word fulfill is the Greek word pleróō and it means to fully preach and to cause God’s will (as made known in the law) to be obeyed as it should be. As a Rabbi/Jewish teacher, Jesus also taught from the Old Testament and opened the minds of His disciples that they might comprehend the scriptures (ref Luke 24:44-45).

Revelation in Greek is the word apokalupsis, it is where we get the english word for apocalypse. Apokalupsis is derived from two Greek words, apo- meaning to destroy or remove and kaluptō- meaning a veil or covering. Any time we understand something that we didn't understand before we have an apocalypse or a revelation.
