I moved to Vercel this weekend for my website, and have been using #umami for analytics for a few months now. Vercel has a lot of great insights over what #Netlify had to offer.

I just used their docs to deploy my own custom #analytics on #Vercel and it is great! Now I wish I could import the historical data to my new location. Gotta build that up again.

All this to say, it's more to go into my post I've been thinking about writing: The Good Side of Analytics.

I never realised until today's announcement about the partnership with #Vercel that #Astro could be going away / lose all its momentum because of money / being sold. 😳

It is a worrisome thought. Open source software is supposed to last, but if the demise of Gridsome and Atom have taught me anything then that even #FOSS isn't forever. 😔

Panthalia is a #nextjs app that enables me to start rich media blog posts from my phone even while traveling or with one hand free, waiting in line.

It opens pull requests against my portfolio site and can request images of any kind via #StableDiffusion XL using Replicate.com.

In this video I explain how it all works and give a live demo, writing "The Ballad of Pizza Rat" as an example.

#Idea: A standardized format for web assets to be deployed to #cloud providers. This format would be easy for each web framework / build tool to directly support and would make them automatically compatible with all supporting cloud providers. Essentially a standardized version of #Vercel's build output API.

Actually, noticing it's not just #vercel, but also #netlify and #render, all have removed their free tier for teams and are all charging about $20/mo 🫤

I guess it was only "free" whilst the VC dollars were flowing? idk.

Did #vercel completely remove their previous free teams setup? Was looking to onboard an organisation to it for a few very small things, but it looks like the only way to create a team is paid now, and we're simply not needing that just yet.

I've decided to build one of my long-time pet-projects just to hone my #WebDev skills a little.

I've been working on #ReactJS sites professionally for about 8 years so I think I should stick to that.

My most recent job was on a #NextJS app that used #TailwindCSS so I think I'll use those too.

#Vercel seems like a good place to host those things.

The idea is like Foursquare/Swarm, but on #ActivityPub!

So uhm, I wrote another #GitHub action. This time for triggering deploys on #Vercel or #Netlify by cron or manually from GitHub UI.

But I'm very unhappy because I can't _easily_ disable automatic deployments on each repository push - so the action is a bit redundant at this point. And I didn't want to switch to fully manual builds outside of Netlify / Vercel CI/CD.

At least I learnt some Bash and that matters I guess.

So much for staying focused. 🤷

I hate how easy it is to fall into the #vercel ecosystem.

@lx Sure, you are right about that one. Still, there are many times when you get live support in such servers (but this has the drawback of repeated questions).

A lot of projects (especially smaller ones) have basic static websites (lot of times using free templates) hosted on free services like Github/Cloudflare Pages, #Vercel #netlify and the like. So I would say that a forum still requires more work and money.

I will agree on your last point though.
