This leaves me with just my own #introduction to the whole special issue.
Abstract
This introduction to the MLO special issue “Minoritised Languages and Travel” provides an overview of the pieces in this collection in context with historical travel accounts in German about nineteenth-century Wales.
Happy reading, y'alls. (For convenience, I will later post the link to the complete bundle.)

Step right into the town of Šabac in #Serbia in 1844 and see how the interplay between the #Ottoman sovereignty and local autonomy, as well as how the interplay worked on the relations between the local #Christian and #Muslim populations.

I'm not new to mastodon but I am new to this server so perhaps an(other) introduction is in order? I teach #Victorian literature and detective fiction at #Dalhousie. My research interests include ethical criticism; historiography; and 19th- and 20th-C women writers of 'novels of purpose' (which is what I am focusing on in my current projects).
I've been writing my blog Novel Readings since 2007. I post there about things I read, about my teaching, about academia and criticism more generally, and sometimes about personal things.
When I'm not reading, I like to crochet and do cross-stitch, both of which are good ways to keep the hands busy while listening to bookish podcasts.
If the bird site really does implode, I'll miss it a lot, but it's the community I've found there that matters to me, and maybe it will survive in new spaces - like this one!
I used to post a lot of photos but haven’t lately but for iPhone quick shots. Here’s an old one from 9 years ago but before I learned a lot more about photography. A bit dark, it’s a Grand Lady home in Bloomington, Illinois. I’ve loved this home for over 50 years. Dreamer me wants to live there. Practical me: that would be nuts! #MyPhoto #Elgin #Victorian #PaintedLady

https://pca.st/podcast/6e23d6a0-3d82-013a-d675-0acc26574db2 I recently started listening to the Charles Dickens: a Brain on Fire podcast and have been really impressed. It's probably next to In Our Time as my favorite Victorian pod. Anyone have any other podcast recommendations? #Dickens #Victorian

Finishing #ATaleofTwoCities with my class today and noticed this interesting shift to first-person plural as the main characters are making their escape. I'm not quite sure what to make of it, but I don't think #Dickens does anything like it anywhere else in the book. #Victorian

In Rodney Street, #Liverpool, there stands an eerie black pyramid. This pyramid is the tomb of one William Mackenzie, an absurdly wealthy engineer said to have lost his soul in a poker game with the Devil. #Folklore claims Mackenzie sits in his pyramid clutching a winning hand of cards - so the Fiend cannot come to claim his winnings.
