At the end of the #Viking Period, there were in all likelihood a lot of shipwrecks at a depth of less than five meters in Lake Mälaren and along adjacent stretches of the Swedish coast. They were all lifted out of the water by isostatic rebound, chewed up by the waves and ice along the shoreline when at surface level, and finally their last timbers rotted away when they came up into the air. #archaeology

The video game #Assassin's Creed Valhalla is set in the #Viking Period. It has several lovingly rendered high-status wooden buildings. But there are no standing Viking Period buildings in #Scandinavia, only some fragments of tiny 11th century churches. So the game designers have used late-1800s National Romantic #architecture and interior #design as their template instead! :-D
