Just rewatched An American In Paris for the first time in years, the restoration, thankfully. What unworldly beauty is in that film. I'm not sure anything else I've seen can compare, and I've seen a LOT of movies from all over the world.

It's the heaviest hitters of the very rich US cultural scene of the 1950s paying homage to their European #Modernist antecedents, and bringing plenty original to bear in the process.
