@jenfraser @magicalmudge best to go in with the browser on a laptop to see what's going on, at least when you're first starting out.

If you hover over an image with a caption, you'll see it.

Also, there are good guidelines for image captioning below.

Don't sweat making it perfect if you don't have a lot of time: any caption that is even remotely descriptive and written in good faith is better than none at all.

If you're posting in the public interest (and if you're on Mastodon, chances are you will do so eventually) CAPTION YOUR IMAGES!

Visually disabled people can benefit from your posts. People who use screenreaders for WHATEVER reason can benefit for your posts. But having a big glob of an image file without a description is a big, big turnoff.

We have a chance to do things better than how they were done on the birdsite. Let's do it.
