- Data from the last decade shows that 96% of murders in the U.S. linked to political extremism are committed by right-wing actors [despite recent polling suggesting] more than half of 2020 Trump voters surveyed believe the opposite is true.

- In last week’s election, Ohio Republicans changed polling places for 47,000+ mostly Black voters in Cuyahoga and Summit counties just 5 days before the election.

“Republicans now confess they think fewer people should vote...

They’ve opposed extension of the Voting Rights Act. How can they be pro-democracy but anti-voting? Few, if any, of these candidates have been pushed to explain their disdain for democracy”

Today in Labor History July 8, 1876: White Democrats attacked African-American Republicans in the Hamburg massacre, in South Carolina. In an act of voter suppression prior to the 1876 United States presidential election, 100 white members of the Red Shirts, a racist, armed rifle club, attacked black members of the National Guards, torturing and murdering six of them. In the months prior to the 1876 election, whites killed scores of black people in the South.

"Voter suppression efforts have only intensified since Trump attempted to overturn the 2020 election, with his Big Lie inspiring an unprecedented reversal of voting access. Since then, in what constitutes the largest rollback of voting rights since the end of Reconstruction, 33 states, mostly controlled by Republicans, have passed 109 bills restricting voting access and undercutting non-partisan election administration, according to the Voting Rights Lab. These efforts have been remarkably coordinated, with dark money groups like Heritage Action for America writing 'model legislation' for state legislatures to make it harder to vote."

"Is it and that are the problem? "

Yes. Yes it is. Texas is actually more blue than red. Especially with the influx of people from California into Austin and central Texas

The is set to rule any day on whether state legislatures have untouchable authority when it comes to elections, shutting out state courts on issues of , , and basically everything election related. It'd be the new, new if the justices sign off.

"The anti-voter bill applies harsh criminal penalties to Mississippians who help members of their communities vote by absentee ballot. It blocks anyone — including a friend, neighbor or volunteer of a voter services group — from helping a Mississippi voter submit an absentee ballot unless they are an election official, postal worker, family member or caregiver. Since the term caregiver isn’t defined, staff of healthcare institutions are also chilled from helping residents with voting."

"Harris County officials at a news conference last week said they would bring a lawsuit challenging the measures as soon as Gov. Greg Abbott (R) signs them into law.

“These bills are not about election reform,” said Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo... “They’re not about improving voters’ experience. They are entirely about suppressing voters’ voices. The reasoning behind these bills is nothing but a cynical charade.”"

The other week's voter suppression didn't work in favour of the government after all so they're redoubling their efforts.

@TJ1001

I fully expect to extend acceptable ID to those held by young people rather than repeal the voter ID legislation

It remains poor use of public funds to protect from a fictitious danger due to elector impersonation but by adding in the proof of age cards, student ID & young person travel cards many young people possess already the intended by the is neutralised

@djr

I think whole overstated - allow use of proof-of-age, student & other cards younger people carry & the issue is dead (apart from additional millions in cost of elections)

The idea a local election covering less than half the electorate 18 months before is a reliable guide to is for the birds - uncertainty around estimate IMO makes it of little value.

FWIW I think will get a majority over 50 & under 200 - but what do I know?
