Is #AIDS a death sentence? Not necessarily. I know several people who were hospitalised with an almost completely destroyed immune system. That was often the point at which they first found out that they were infected with #HIV.

There are many reasons why people ignore the warning signs. The fear of #stigma and #discrimination is one of them. Often it is also the incompetence of doctors who simply do not think of HIV as a possible cause.

Do you know what movie I hate the most because it has done the community an absolute disservice? "Philadelphia" with Tom Hanks.

I don't want to debate whether the film and its portrayal are right or wrong. However, the haunting images of #AIDS have burned themselves into the collective memory and it is difficult for us to get rid of these spirits again.

Do you know about U=U? #UEqualsU

It stands for „undetectable equals untransmittable“.

People living with HIV who are on a successful treatment have an undetectable viral load. This means that the number of viruses still remaining in the blood is so low that even the most modern tests are not able to detect them.

Fact: The #AIDS pandemic can be ended by 2030 already!

#UNAids has defined fast-track targets to reach that aim:
90-90-90-0* with 500000 new #HIV infections or fewer by 2020

and

95-95-95-0* with < 200000 new infections by 2030

* 0 stands for ZERO DISCRIMINATION. HIV activists demand to define the targets as 0-95-95-95 because the discrimination has to end first. Then the rest will me much easier! #EndTheStigma

Don’t confuse #HIV and #AIDS

HIV is the virus‘s name you can get infected with. In this case you are „HIV positive“.

AIDS is the syndrome (hence the S in AIDS) where your immune system has more or less collapsed and is no longer able to fight all the bad things (other viruses, bacteria, germs) that are attacking us every day.

Most of the people living with HIV do NOT have AIDS

Really good night of #programming on "wadbuild," #Acronia's #Linux-based #WAD compiler. It turns human-readable data files (plain text, images, WAV files, MIDI, etc.) into the binary formats that the game expects.

There's only one lump type left to implement, and it should be fairly easy if I can get a free block of time to dedicate to it.

I really enjoy being able to point a command-line tool at a directory and say "do the thing" instead of mucking around with a GUI-based editor.

I'm not knocking GUI tools -- in fact, having a GUI-based Acronia editor available on release day is going to be an important part of fostering a healthy modding community. It's just that my brain "clicks" better with human-readable raw files, especially when I'm trying to work fast and iterate faster.

Unix philosophy, I suppose.
