My first look at the new #WMATA door-style faregates now replacing the not-that-old, E-Z-to-hop-over gates. The warning on every gate--"If you intentionally damage the fare gates, you will be prosecuted"--seems like something that shouldn't have to be spelled out.

#WMATA has concluded single-tracking @ Smithsonian after the wrong-side door operation incident.

At approximately 6:55pm, the operator of Silver Line train 603 opened their doors on the wrong side of their train @ Smithsonian station. The train has offloaded, and the operator performed an inspection around the train.

Trains are single-tracking around Smithsonian; delays, both directions.

Rode the bus with Isaac to take him to daycare this morning. For the 2nd time this week, the fare box wasn’t working, so we were both technically scofflaws, evading fare and depriving #wmata of income.

I have seen that the Adam Tuss’ & Tom Sherwood’s of the world are still very focused on turnstile jumping for WMATA rail, helping that remain a big story on social media. Any outrage from them about bus stuff? Nah—wealthy white folks from MoCo & Fairfax don’t see that stuff, so it doesn’t exist.

The #WMSC has published inspection reports including those covering #WMATA Automatic Train Operation testing. This report, from April, details some of the technical issues that they saw, including: station overruns, doors not opening, stopping short at stations.

The commission has since said that Metro's organization and procedures are not ready for a return to ATO.

MTPD didn't tell the #WMATA ROCC about a potential bomb threat at L'Enfant Plaza; Metrorail personnel only heard about it by overhearing an officer's radio

The ROCC didn't notice a train that had been sitting idle for 10 minutes with customers onboard. (The operator was drunk and arrested, a story I broke back in January)
