This is one of my favorite mugs. To me, a sea serpent happily playing around a ferry is just SO very #Washington. I mention it b/c the artist, Erika Rae Heins of Whidbey Island, has a #Kickstarter up for HOODIES with this picture. I've been begging for this design on a hoodie for years. She met her goal and they'll be made, but her car needs work and she could certainly use selling more. :)

The Summit just announced they'll be closed tomorrow.

This will be the first Xmas my ski instructor partner J won't be working since... I don't even know. The offspring was YOUNG. So like 2008ish?

This storm is no joke, y'all. Over on Twitter, #WSDOT posted a photo of I90 by me and it was solid ice. Like you could probably play hockey on it. It wasn't this bad here when Seattle was covered in ice, but freezing rain will do that.

From the "You know it's bad when..." Files, #WSDOT has officially told the Summit that they need to send everyone home NOW. So, yeah, the weather is officially government agencies telling ski areas to close bad.

I'm unclear if people are being allowed down from #SnoqualmiePass still. Since the closure is for weather and avalanche danger, there's a decent chance they're not and I'm about to have a large number of unexpected Christmas guests.

Apparently I90 over #SnoqualmiePass is open again already. Bless #WSDOT. It is precipitating again/still up here, though, so people are going to need to be careful for it not to close again.

Update from #SnoqualmiePass : I90 is technically open. But we have ice, freezing fog, blowing snow, and something frozen falling from the sky. (I'm not sure if it's freezing rain or snow and am not going out to check.)

From what I hear, the lowlands are bad enough that I don't know how you'd get to the Pass anyway, but I'm going to repeat the advice to not drive here if you don't really, truly, and absolutely have to.

Today on the mountain... I see blue in the sky for the first time in days. But it's below zero FAHRENHEIT. Which isn't normal even if below zero Celsius is. I don't want to try to ski in this level of cold, so I'm going to organize my new pantry instead.

Also, #WSDOT has closed I90 in both directions over #SnoqualmiePass due to collisions. (Specifically colliding big rigs, which take forever to clear and there's no estimated time of reopening yet.)

#SnoqualmiePass update: I-90 is closed in both directions from North Bend to Ellensburg due to spinouts and adverse driving conditions.

They typically allow people who are already up here to drive down in this type of situation, but I don't have word yet if that is true today.

Conditions at my house on #SnoqualmiePass: kinda foggy and puking snow. If you're skiing, bring your powder skis. If you're driving past... Maybe don't? #WSDOT is currently requiring chains on all vehicles other than AWD, but I90 is somehow still open.

Upon reflection and reading responses to my post about #wsdot, I've decided someone needs to suggest to Elon that he ban all government bodies from blue states. And also all US national parks.

I welcome all the new #journalists even if I don't have the emotional ability right now to follow them. Who I REALLY want to see here, though, is #wsdot. If you're not from WA, you might not know, but our Department of Transportation has the absolute best social media people.
