With #box, microsoft, etc. adding #AI, I'm getting less and less fond of cloud-based storage for our sensitive human-subjects research data. (And that's before adding in the environmental costs of the large server centers.)

I asked the #wustl IT folks if there were plans to implement #BoxAI, as we have sensitive human research data stored in box.

IT replied that there are currently no plans to enable the #AI, and that no changes would be made that violate #HIPAA compliance. I asked that they update their guidance accordingly, but have not seen it yet.

I suspect this is only the very start of #cloud-related human-subjects research #privacy issues.

@JschleiderPhD @Iris Not being willing to compromise on research ethics sometimes requires being an activist. It is very difficult to know what official guarantees are sufficient. I am very glad that #wustl agreed to update its #CertificateOfConfidentiality human-subjects research protection descriptions post-Dobbs, but wonder what they would do if a lawsuit (for abortion-related participant data) actually occurred.
