Just had one of those weird coincidence moments - I bought this pair of #WW1 medals on eBay to my family name, some years back & put them away. Having come across them again, after some quick research, it turns out that he was my Grandfather’s cousin Fred. I’m lost for words.

Hallowe’en greetings to all past ranks, London Scottish Regt. 108 years ago tonight, we held the line at Messines & became the first fighting Territorial infantry regt. of #WW1, at a terrible cost. Of the 700 men who fought, just 306 mustered the following morning - ‘Strike Sure’

RT @jbanningww1: Remembering all those who went over the top at the Somme 106 years ago today. ‘The day of hope and slaughter’ as one survivor memorably named it. #Somme106 #Somme #WW1

Cataloguing for our next Medal auction & I believe that I’ve discovered a #WW1 officer who looks to have died as a direct result of his service & appears to be missing from the official register. I’ve referred his case to the excellent @CWGC for investigation. #wewillrememberthem

I’m handling phone bids at today’s @NoonansAuctions medal sale. For me, the pick of the sale is this astonishing #WW1 group of medals to Sgt. Logan of the Black Watch. Three times awarded the DCM, three times mentioned in despatches and a Russian Cross of St. George.
