The Battleship Texas Foundation has dry dock tours of the ship available for a few more weeks. Major work on the original 1914 hull, and replacement of the torpedo blisters added in 1930. The Texas served in both WWI and WWII. Ship is in dry dock in Galveston. #shipphotography #photography #WWIIhistory

Second World War Pett Level coastal battery, an emergency battery built as part of Eastern Command's coastal defences. The battery was constructed in 1940-41 and mounted two 6-inch breech-loading guns.

The land is managed by the Pett Level Preservation Trust, and the battery wall now has a bat box attached.

This second item is for Augustus Welby. On seeing the name my immediate thought was 'he must be getting on a bit' but this is the grandson of the more famous AWP. He was captured in France in 1940 and released in a prisoner exchange in 1943. 3/3

The first item is the record for Captain Charles Wells RAMC. He was captured at Arnhem and sent to Stalag XIB Fallingbostel. What I noticed was that he is still wearing a surgical mask round his neck. Was he taken away from treating the wounded to have his picture taken?

I have now finished the boxes assigned to me and they have been opened to the public. I tried to read MONUMENTS MEN but stopped because the author repeatedly called art hero Rose Valland “plain” and “basically invisible.” She was a BADASS.

The movie based on the book didn’t even really include her. They changed her name to Claire Simone and cast Cate Blanchett.

Cate Blanchett’s character lives in Paris (where all the hot French people live) but she’s still got heart eyes for Matt Damon’s character.
