Went for a walk out near #Huia this afternoon. A bit of a cold gloomy day for it, but we found some #fungi and a huge carabid #beetle (possibly a Holcaspis sp?)

My last bit of picture spam for your feed - #Cornwallis beach on Sunday before the rain set in.

During a walk along one of the beaches, my friend and I found what we think was a Kauri snail/pupurangi (Paryphanta sp) shell on the high tide line. We suspect it washed down from the native bush nearby and ended up on the beach.
We also found suspicious footprints along the high tide line. Perhaps a hedgehog or rat??
I haven't been pulling my weight with #fungi posts recently. Here's a few I found during a walk at #Cornwallis in #Waitākere over the weekend.
Clockwise from the top left, an earthstar (Geastrum sp), fly agaric (Amanita muscaria), a young robust bracket (Fomitiporia robusta), bonnets (Mycena sp).

Last weekend some friends and I walked the #Omanawanui track out at #Whatipu. The views were glorious!
There are a lot of stairs to climb and a small rocky section to clamber over. Most of the track is exposed with only a short section having tree coverage.
Be aware the road out there is... interesting... Gravel, windy, barely fits two cars in some spots, no barriers with shear drops.

Went for another walk out near #Piha today. This time we went up to the lookout then followed the track around past some smaller bays and back up to the road.
We couldn't believe the number of people out surfing this morning (surely it's too cold still?!).
Saw some interesting looking trees that have obviously copped a lot of wind and grown into strange shapes.

In today's wanderings we did the #Waitakere Dam Walk. It was nice enough, though I don't think I would do it again. Paved roadway down to the dam and back. Only saw one other group the whole time. Very peaceful. Spotted kererū and tūī on the way
