More of my favourite arts.
Chhaya is my character from a Wanderhome campaign that sort of petered out over the winter. She is a dancer from a faraway land which no one can remember how to get to.

Overall, a delightful game. Next session will be the last I had initially planned. I suppose I'll see whether anyone wants to keep playing!
Highly recommended to play guided. I haven't tried guideless yet, but playing guided and encouraging players to input as we play as well has been a perfect game master experience.
Interestingly, they are a lot more cautious about trying things than they would be in something dice-oriented.
If I tell them about strange lever contraption on the bridge, they won't just run up and pull it. They're much more nervous about potential danger as well.
I feel like perhaps the lack of dice rolls has made it -- and any consequences -- feel more real to them.
It's an absolute delight to run this game.
I spend a lot of time asking players how they do things -- what does going to sleep look like for you? What does your tent look like and do you set it up alone or ask for help?
And my players are gradually understanding that this is a game about interaction -- with each other as much as with the world. It's been wonderful to watch them start in-character interactions.
We continued my Wanderhome game yesterday and it was just lovely!
The players told stories around the communal caravan campfire and learned the local folklore in return. They had a walk along a bridge of strange and ancient design and connected it with stories of the Hyena King's treasure.
One of them found an abandoned shrine of a dragonfly goddess and restored it!
And the ghost one of my players guides expressed unease at staying in this location ...
Continuing my Wanderhome game this evening!
In true TTRPG fashion, my players all agreed to a time to play and then on the day someone asked if we could move it. But it's at least still going ahead!
I'm excited to see whether they enjoy exploring the long bridge and discovering what lies beneath, or telling stories at the communal caravan campfire. ^_^
A Poet toad with a briefcase full of notes who is furiously scribbling down everything everyone says, delighted to be surrounded by such interesting people
A Vagabond Squirrel who is "a thief and a monster" but insists they aren't a criminal and is usually to be found stuffing objects into their trunk
They're all part of the Swaying Winds Caravan which travels across the land and they camp together in the same plot. ^_^
My players consist of:
An Exile eagle who is a disabled former acrobat and entertainer who loves to tell stories and be the centre of attention
A Veteran oryx who is dark and jaded about the world but seems to look after the people around them in spite of warning everyone that the world is dangerous and not to trust
A Psychopomp owl guiding a ghost to their final resting place and also keen to guide the souls of the living they meet to peace
We're going to play online this week and try to finish off the session.
So far, so wonderful. An extremely pleasant game to guide. I hope I get to be a player in it as well someday!
Everyone was really engaged and enjoying the creation though which was wonderful!
We played about an hour of actual game, long enough to establish the setting and the characters.
They immediately started collecting objects, investigating interesting areas I'd described nearby, and questioning NPCs -- like the wagon driver, who our Psychopomp realised must have certain Traumatised Traits due to her experience with ghosts, and immediately decided to try to help.
Okay so my first session of Wanderhome went great!
Most of the session was taken up by character creation, which took a lot longer than I expected -- mostly because character creation in Wanderhome makes you think so much more than in things like D&D.
It's not about skills and weapons, it's about what informs your actions and interests, what you are running from and what you are running toward, who you are and who you wish you were.
Today I'm gonna get my Wanderhome game for tomorrow properly written down.
I love that I don't have to track stats or plan combat encounters. Just going to introduce the players to the setting and some key characters and hopefully get some story threads in they might choose to pull on!
Now to dig out my tokens ... I think they're currently living in a home-made 'make your own board game' kit ...
Once I'm done moving in a week, I should return to reading. My goal is to come back to one #clarkesworld magazine story a day (sometimes two if there's time on a commute). And maybe start a new #rpg group in the new place, so the fiction emergent from play (story games & indie, hoping for #wanderhome and generally #solarpunk) will join the fiction from short stories.

Wanderhome
Wanderhome is a no dice, no masters game described as "a pastoral fantasy tabletop RPG about traveling animal-folk and the way they change with the seasons" that is being Kickstarted right now. There is a free playkit to get a taste of the game, but I think it's well worth backing for another game using the no dice, no masters game engine
