Drug Decriminalization Policies Work — With Properly Funded Treatment Services

With even many conservatives getting on board with decriminalization, it seemed as though the “” might soon be relegated to the dustbin of history. The most sweeping of the 2020 initiatives was Oregon’s Measure 110, which decriminalized personal possession of all drugs. The leading precedent for the ambitious law was Portugal’s similar policy passed twenty years earlier.

Petition to sign for

“July 1 marks 50 years of the Drug Enforcement Agency’s role in enforcing harmful and deadly drug war policies. The DEA spent over $1 trillion to accelerate criminalization and incarceration, drug war propaganda, and policies rooted in harm, rather than care.

We demand that half of the over $3 billion budget be reallocated to proven public health interventions like housing, harm reduction, services and care!“ vocal-ny.org/tell_your_senator

America Has Lost the War on Drugs. Here’s What Needs to Happen Next.

That means accepting that people who use drugs are still members of our communities and are still worthy of compassion and care. It also means acknowledging the needs and wishes of people who don’t use drugs...These goals are not mutually exclusive. In fact, they go hand in hand. But to make them a reality, lawmakers and other officials will have to lead the way.

The War on Drugs strikes again. Almost every time I hear of a problem with illegal drugs it's something caused by them being illegal.

Here's a story about people who sold fentanyl disguised as Percocet and Oxy that led to ten teens ODing and three dying.

If people want drugs, they'll get drugs. I'd rather they get clean drugs they can trust. And I want honest education about different drugs, rather than lumping highly addictive Oxy with weed and shrooms.

A son of the Justice Secretary of the was acquitted of a drug charge in a speedy trial. Many will quite naturally see it as favoritism. I, for one, can live with that. I just wish the thousands of less privileged people who died in the mindless unleashed by the former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte got a chance to have their day in court too. They never did. And their extrajudicial killings were by large swept under the carpet. rappler.com/nation/boying-remu

You can’t stop the demand. People have always found ways to escape the existential void and always will. The will never produce anything more than headlines.

It seems that the problem is tied directly to our . It isn’t working, it never will as long as there is a demand and there always will be a demand. will always be looking for an escape. Life is too painful for many of us. The only answer is to legalize everything and dispense it via controlled businesses such as THC storefronts are now. That would put the out of business. Their reign of terror would end and mass exodus would no longer be necessary.

Both of these achievements were done on the name of

They were done with the knowledge that the doesn't stop people accessing and using them.

Realistically, we need to be educating people on the realities of drug use, not incarcerating them.

@kixes Americans have been voting for ballot measures to legalize at the state level, which is def welcome. But it's not enough; as a country that claims to be committed to worldwide , the US needs to take responsibility for its role in the and advocate for liberalization globally.

"The story of the drug trade is too often told purely from the supply side, when the truth is that American demand is the engine, American dollars purchase the drugs and are then laundered using American banks and sent back to Mexico to bribe officials and undermine public trust."

Do you believe that the war on drugs should be ended? Should it be a crime to consume Psilocybin mushrooms?
