This is old news at this point, but I wanted to chime in ‘cause people were worried that Hornby will outright buy Warlord and I think that’s entirely possible. Remember—whether you thought it was good or not—John Stallard was 1/3 of the people that lead the buyout of GW.

Seamus himself. Almost ready to lead my Irish Brigades all across the highlands looking trouble to raise. I need to get highlights done on Graham but he’s table ready now.

Also in shot is the banner for my first regiment. Have photocopied the banner for O’Cahan’s from the leaflet (great wee extras aren’t they?) and did a bit of editing, then pva’d it crunched it, and highlighted parts with paint.

Horsing about on big Seamus’ horse. Finished & based James Graham’s horse, and now working on base coats for the man himself.

Not the biggest calvary painter, genuinely can’t think of the last time I painted a horse. Happy with this one - basing brings up the mini, and the general painting is to a point I’m content.

Mercifully, Graham’s maverick army was short on horse, so it’ll be a rarity for me. 😅

Doing some more base coats on James Graham’s horse. Doing a bit of messing with various Flesh contrast paints. Happy just to get to the paint tabling, nice wee bit of familiarity. Having a very peaceful and lovely change in the pace of life.

Getting some base colours down today while everyone else naps. Finding that nice range of scattered projects I primed for this week pitch perfect. Splash a colour on, move to something new and do the same. Perfectly relaxed pacing for a tired me.

Final snaps of the first regiment of Montrose Irish. These we’re extremely good fun to paint. They’re characterful and charming miniatures. The mismatched nature of them made it engaging to work through and the command miniatures were just all the above x10.

Having got a regiment down this week - I need to prime some mini projects (I should have a exciting but very busy week(s) ahead).

Some that have been stripped recently, a crew for a cannon, a couple of Goblins, and James Graham himself to lead the Irish. Lots of fun stuff to paint here.

Takeaway so far? I have stabbed myself with so many pikes…

Accidentally broke my “Rank and a treat” method on the Pike Regiment by blitzing all the Pikes. Which means.. onto treats, the Sergeant and the Ensign.

The Sergeant is one of my favourite miniatures from the set. It’s pitch perfect. Eyepatch, bonnet, slightly more aged face, simple attire, wrap. Its one of the most characterful in the range for me, it’s telling the story of the Irish Brigades. Love it.

Before I’d read anything about the Irish Brigade in the I’d always had (a joking) hatred of Aberdeen (Hibs fan here- shocker)… BUT WHEN I FOUND OUT THEY SHOT THE DRUMMER BOY!?!

Anyway, I’d say this is halfway done? Want to highlight the face, and I’m not sure about the jacket, want it to look frayed, but might want to tidy it a touch more.

Two wings of Irish Musketeers now finished. So now onto the pike block. I got it started with a treat of working on the Captain. Managed to get into halfway into a rank of pikes as well. Enjoying painting historics for change. Utterly enthralled by reading about Montrose and Mac Colla and the Irish Brigades. So a very nice all encompassing project.

First pair of Muskets ready to get based for my Montrose Irish Army. It’s the first couple of I’ve painted. They’re really lovely with a nice and fine but not overwhelming level of detail. Too add, after reading a bit on tartan (auldearn1645.blogspot.com/2020) I’ve took a first crack at it. I’d say I am pretty happy with the first go at it.
