Like what Nixon did with #Watergate was about internal political corruption, whereas the actions detailed in the #TrumpIndictment have #NationalSecurity implications. Not just the question if the docs got in the wrong hands, but further diminishing trust between the Us and foreign allies. A baffling take.

I loathe the comparisons of what #Trump did to Nixon, but I saw a political reporter quadruple down that #Watergate was worse than what is detailed in the #TrumpIndictment, the former POTUS taking national security docs and storing them where they were accessible to many people and showing them to some when he knew he couldn’t. If we’re talking about the many bad things Nixon did I see the argument, but as a 1:1 comparison I just don’t get how a historically literate person can make that claim

Yesterday in Labor History March 16, 1968: Up to 500 Vietnamese villagers were slaughtered by U.S. troops in the My Lai Massacre. The story was broken by investigative journalist Sy Hersch, who also covered Watergate, the secret US bombing of Cambodia, CIA domestic spying within the US, and the US torture and abuse of prisoners at Abu Ghraib. More recently, he has written articles showing that Syrian rebel forces, not the Assad regime, contrary to US propaganda, were responsible for the sarin gas attack in Ghouta. And that the US, with Norwegian collaboration, blew up the Nord Stream pipelines between Russia and Germany (also contrary to US propaganda).

The time elapsed between the #Watergate burglary to Richard #Nixon resigning was 783 days.

It’s 788 days since Donald #Trump attempted a coup and incited an insurrection (which occurred in broad daylight on live television) and all Merrick #Garland has done is kick the can down the road by appointing a special prosecutor.

Even an #indictment won’t stop Trump from running in 2024.
