Cruciverbalist Nuala Considine died #OTD in 2018. Possibly the most prolific crossword setter of all time, you may have done her crosswords (Excalibur, the Toughie) and never heard of her. When she had to give up her Aer Lingus job on marriage to pilot Brian, they moved to London and Nuala's long career in crosswords began. She compiled until weeks before her death aged 90.

Nell Ryan was born #OTD in 1881. Cumann na mBan organiser and one of 77 women arrested after 1916 Rising. Jailed and went on hunger strike in Civil War. First woman elected to Wexford County Council. She was "friend and confidant of practically every leader in the Republican movement"
One of the famous Ryan family of Tomcoole, Nell was the only one of her siblings with no Wikipedia page, so we fixed that #WeCanEdit
