For anyone interested in Romantic essays about Welsh , studies, and short stories, or early writing, allow me to share my comprehensive bibliography of Thomas Richards (1800-1877), formerly of Dolgellau before emigrating to Hobart via London in the early 1830s. Wherever possible, I have linked to digital copies of any of his writings that I have been able to trace. This is a work in progress, so I hope to share future updates of the bibliography.

The hardship when you're looking at recent studies of the and you give an internal whoop when you find titles dedicated to religion in the C19 historical novel, or the Cromwellian years -- and then neither title looks at Wales in any shape or form. No references to Wales as a historical actor/location, no selection of novels set in Wales, leave alone Welsh authors producing works. It's like writing about water without saying it's wet, when you dedicate a whole study to analysing the religious historical novel in C19 Britain and not even mention Wales even most cursorily as a place where you weren't able to swing a cat without hitting a revivalist in the face.

Sometimes research life is not fun when you do and have only very few people around you to talk shop with.

This is one goes out to anyone who has a title on their CV labelled "forthcoming". I feel you.

For this year's I have received unofficial word that I can add a forthcoming title to my publication list of edited works. Country Landlords by Louisa Matilda Spooner is on course for publication in 2026. Until then, give me strength (I wouldn't say no to €-cents) for every single, inevitable occasion when I will see the novel misattributed to Anne Beale.

@kelseashanty @litstudies Strap yourself in for one of the perhaps best early novels written about the French Invasion of Fishguard in 1797. Not quite Napoleonic, but co-temporary.
