This week the CPAT team started a new project at Powis Castle.

One of the most significant castles in Wales, Powis dates from the 13th century. It has been in the Herbert family since the 1500s.

Our project is looking for the remains of a Dutch-style water garden, built around 1705 and abandoned a century later.

Supported by the National Trust and Council for British Archaeology.

Lovely after-work bike ride, along the Montgomery Canal near our office in #Welshpool. You can see Beacon Ring - an Iron Age #hillfort - in the distance.

I should really be finishing the book about our excavations there but sometimes it’s good to have a break!
