I just got around to watching #WendellAndWild, I loved the casual trans representation and that it dealt with some meaty topics like survivor's guilt, criminalizing juveniles, and private prisons. <3

Watched Wendell & Wild yesterday and while I need more time to figure out how I feel about the story, I have to say that the character designs and animation were top-notch and inspired! Feel so spoiled being able to watch 2-3 stop motion movies in 2022!

Prob selfish for saying this cause stop motion is labor intensive but sometimes I wish there were more stop motion animation. I find it a craft where there is potential for innovation.

Saw two animated features this weekend: #WendellAndWild, and #StrangeWorld. I really enjoyed them both, loved the way they looked, and was mesmerized by all the artistry on display at every level. But what I found really interesting was the very different ways these two films handled the diversity of their casts. 1/

The themes of the movie are constantly present in her appearance alone

Watched #WendellAndWild, and liked it overall. I’m not the intended audience; a lot of the #writing and #voice acting felt forced and stiff though. But James Hong as Father Bests was excellent! Between his voice performance and the way they #animated him, he felt very believable. Maybe I’m just more familiar with him? I thought they did a great job with Raul as well.

We need to learn to separate style and interests from Blackness. Because we are part of every culture and subculture America has to offer. We probably created them tbh. But narrowing what Blackness is to one particular thing is basically doing the work of supremacy for it. And we need that like we need a plastic bag over our heads.

Having had bad experiences being made fun of for what you enjoy is something that a lot of us understand, but also anyone who uses that as an excuse to eschew their Blackness is problematic as fuck. But it's a conversation we should have more because those of us who are able to move around fluidly between cultures are the connective tissue of this country and it should be appreciated more often.

Sometimes, it's easy to feel like you don't belong anywhere when you are a person of color but your style and interests do not match a lot of your peers. But it doesn't mean that you belong nowhere; it means you belong everywhere. You belong wherever the hell you want to be and you have the experience and versatility of character to go there. And we love that for you🖤

My Friday night movie was #WendellAndWild. Just the right amount of creepy story and feel-good ending. I wish there were more stop animation films. They have a texture that computer animation can't replicate.

I just finished #WendellAndWild and thought it was great. I loved the needle drops from Black-led bands from my youth. I especially appreciated the behind the scenes footage and pictures during the credit roll. It was so great to see the (usually) unseen artists getting some love.
