Next was an amazing talk by Oliver Hart on the importance of #ESG and shareholder welfare at #WesternUniversity. The economic and moral case laid out here is impeccable, and offered a reasonable alternative to the purely profit-driven ESG approach. Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZM6D1RM-y0 (9/10) #economics #investing

Next was a thoughtful talk by Grant Campbell on the myriad biases and issues with using #AI to predict #dementia at #WesternUniversity. Computer scientists too often focus on accuracy without understanding data biases or social context, and this talk thoroughly lays those out in the dementia context https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8NwW0tXZiZA (5/10)

Next was a fabulous talk by Katy Greenland and @profkeonwest on the definitional boundaries of #discrimination at #WesternUniversity. Pretty much everyone thinks #racism is bad and don't think they engage in any racist behaviors, but racist acts happen all the time. This talk gets into the psychological foundation of this disconnect, and why quantitative metrics are essential for getting at the heart of discrimination. Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvDeXPCopNQ (4/7) #psychology

Last was a fantastic talk by Jennifer Walker on #indigenous #data governance and #ethics at #WesternUniversity. The well researched, inclusive approach here is a model to follow in countries beyond #Canada, and the OCAP program described here looks amazing. Highly recommend https://lnkd.in/eyH9yCBA (6/6)

First was a thorough talk by @sylviafuller@mastodon.socia on women managers and the #gender wage gap at #WesternUniversity. Looking at data from South #Korea and an initiative to increase the proportion of women managers set the stage for an interesting look at whether or not women managers can improve gender equity (tldr; a bit, but it's complicated) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVYR0K9nd_g (2/6) #HR

I found some very cool #WesternU #WesternUniversity content at Museum London (Ontario, Canada) today.
At Western University, I'm starting to research and write my PhD dissertation in earnest. It's going to take me about two years to get it done. The attached link takes you to the published thesis idea if you are wondering what I'll be on about in my dissertation. #WesternU #WesternUniversity
