One of the many river goddesses of #Celtic lands, Verbeia was the resident spirit of the River Warfe, known from inscriptions at a Roman fort in Yorkshire. Local legend has it that the river goddess appeared on #Beltane morning, on May 1, in the form of a white horse. Anyone seeing the apparition should be wary of drowning in the riverโs spring flood.
